A mixture of a fine-particled styrene polymer containing an expanding agent, and an aqueous polymer dispersion may be applied to a supnort of paper or fabric of natural or synthetic fibre or felt or plastics sheeting prior to the water being evaporated off and the styrene polymer expanded thus forming a composite sheet. The styrene polymer is mixed with such an amount of 40% - 70% aqueous polymer dispersion that the composition contains with reference to the styrene polymer, from 20% to 100% by weight of the polymer contained in the dispersion Specified polymers include homopolymers and copolymers of styrene containing more than 50% by weight of styrene units. Substances copolymerised with styrene are acrylonitrile. acrylic esters of alcohols with one to eight carbon atoms and corresponding esters of methacrylic acid, isobutylene, butadiene and vinyl carbazole. Polymers used in the nolymer dispersion include vinyl esters, acrylic or methacrylic esters of alcohols having from one to eight carbon atoms and copolymers with each other. Polymers and copolymers of styrene, butadiene, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride and acrylonitrile may also be used.
