Abstract

1,052,363. Printing processes. COLUMBIA RIBBON & CARBON MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. April 23, 1965, No. 17216/65. Heading B6C. A dry method of duplicating from an imaged master sheet having a soluble hectograph dyestuff image thereon which comprises superposing said master sheet with its image in surface contact with a coating on a copy sheet, and in the absence of conventional spirit duplicating fluids, is characterized in that the copy sheet coating has a porous sponge-like structure and comprises a vinyl resin having dispersed within the pores thereof droplets of a pressure-exudable oily liquid which is a solvent for the dyestuff of the image and a non-solvent for and incompatible with the vinyl resin. When the master and copy sheets are in contact, sufficient pressure, e.g. 500 p.s.i., is applied to the copy sheet to exude the liquid solvent from its coating such that the solvent dissolves off a portion of the image dyestuff to form a copy of the image on the surface coating of the copy sheet. The copy sheet coating may comprise 2 to 6 parts by weight of substantially colourless droplets of a pressure-exudable oily liquid including oleic acid and butyl stearate per 1 part by weight of a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer resin.
