Abstract
1,051,722. Crimping yarn. KLINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. (D. A. E. Mattingly). May 6, 1964 [May 10, 1963], No. 18711/63. Headings DID and D1F. The position of the head of a moving plug of compressed-crimped yarn is maintained substantially constant as yarn is withdrawn therefrom to a winding apparatus, by applying to the withdrawn yarn a restraint the size of which is dependent on the position of the head of the plug. The plug is fed-as in Specification 1,051,721-in between a driven toothed wheel 16 and an arcuate member 17 which has a slot 18 through which the yarn is withdrawn. The yarn may be wound on a ring spindle 10 and tensioned by a V-shaped groove 20 to a degree determined by the position of the head of the plug, the yarn tension determining the rate of take-up. Alternatively the yarn may be wound on a package 22, Fig. 2 (not shown), the circumference of which is driven at a constant speed, and tensioned to stretch the yarn by being passed between two blades 24, 25 spring pressed together and mounted on member 17 in a similar manner to groove 20.
