Abstract
1,051,043. Golf practice equipment. M. R. SPEISER. March 3, 1964 [Dec. 23, 1963], No. 8869/64. Heading A6D. [Also in Division G2] In a golf game, a ball is driven from a teeing position into an impact net 16 placed in front of a screen 14, the time which the ball takes to arrive at the net, and its position of impact on the net, being used to generate input signals to a computer, which in turn controls the operation of a projector 12 (see Division G2) to project a spot of light on to the screen 14, the projected spot of light being sized and positioned according to the force and direction of the stroke applied to the ball at the teeing position. The size of the projected image is controlled by a series of apertured masks 52 interposed between the light source 120 of the projector and its lens unit 100. The masks are hinged to the projector casing and controlled solenoids 150 to vary the size of the are movable under the action of computerprojected light beam. The light beam is then directed on to the screen via the mirror 56 of a galvanometer, the latter being rotatable bodily about a horizontal axis. The current passing through the galvanometer, and the supply of power to an electric motor which rotates the galvanometer, are both controlled by the computer to position the projected image in accordance with the flight characteristics of the driven ball.
