Abstract

1,049,814. Lining for metallurgical vessels. VEITSCHER MAGNESITWERKE-ACTIENGESELLSCHAFT. June 29, 1964 [July 9, 1963], No. 26832/64. Heading F4B. A lining for metallurgical vessels comprises alternate series of basic to neutral refractory bricks which have been ceramically bonded and afterwards impregnated with carbon, and quarter thickness basic to neutral refractory plates, which are non-fired but which have been bonded in a carbon containing medium. The refractory materials may include magnesia, dolomitic magnesia, dolomite with or without chrome ore, clay, magnesium-aluminium-spinel or lime. Preferably alternate bricks and plates are laid chequerboard fashion. A brick and plate may be combined, e.g. by adhesive, into one unit for ease of handling. The fired bricks are carbon impregnated by immersion, or vacuum and/or pressure treatment at high temperatures using hydrocarbons, tar, pitch, or soot or graphite suspensions, whilst the unfired plates are bonded with tar, pitch, or bitumen, with or without soot/graphite suspensions.
