Abstract

1, 049, 306. Pneumatic separation; cyclone separator. POLYSIUS G.m.b.H. July 30, 1965 [March 3, 1964], No. 32795/65. Addition to 1,018,020. Headings B2H and B2P. The classifier described in the parent Specification is modified by having an annular arrangement of guide blades in the region of the classifying-air inlets and a slidably movable ring for varying the entry cross-section for the air admitted between the guide blades. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, part or the whole of the classifying air is introduced through two volutes 15, 16, Fig. 2 (not shown), radially inwardly of which is mounted an annulus of adjustable guide blades 14. A ring 17 is mounted radially inwardly of the blades 14 and is vertically adjustable to vary the entry cross-section of the classifying air passing between the blades. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown); the ring 17<SP>1</SP> is mounted radially outwardly of the blades 14. The collecting funnel 7<SP>1</SP> for the fines forms the lower part of a cyclone whose upper part 21 is vertically adjustable and has a flared portion 21b in communication with the separating zone 13. The deflecting body 4<SP>1</SP> has an extension 4a projecting downwardly into the upper part of the cyclone. Blades 21a surrounding the extension 4a produce a swirling of the classifying air and entrained fines whereby the fines are separated by centrifugal action and discharged through the conduit 10<SP>1</SP> while the clean air is discharged through a central tube 23. The coarse particles collect in a chamber 24 which has a spirally-descending porous floor 25 and operates as a pneumatic conveyer trough.
