Abstract

A classifier to segregate, e.g. over 200 tons/hr of limestone powder, comprises an upper cylindro-conic cyclone, fed through two diametrically opposed tangential inlets, and having an annular vaned outlet at the bottom to a larger cyclone, which is fed with supplementary air entering between conical baffles. Air carrying fines vents from the top of lower cyclone, through a converging cone within upper cyclone, being drawn by a centrifugal extractor through a cyclone separator, so that air may be recycled. A double cone deflector within lower cyclone may be displaced axially on a central shaft, to control classification. Coarse powder is recovered from bottom of lower cyclone. Appts. is inexpensive, and of energy consumption competitive with centrifugal classifiers.
