[Also in Division A3] A buckle comprises a movable frame 5, the side bars 6, 7 of which form guides for side bars 10, of a stationary frame 1, holding the frames together and allowing displacement of the movable frame with respect to the stationary frame in the direction of the side bars, the movable frame having an end bar 14 and an intermediately positioned cross bar 12 with an engaging lip 13 and the stationary frame carrying a roller 3 for a strap, placed between said intermediately positioned cross bar and said end cross bar 14 and adapted to co-operate with the said engaging lip of the intermediately positioned cross bar to clamp the strap between said roller and said engaging lip. The stationary frame is intended to be fastened to a shoe by securing a cross bar 4, at the opposite end of the frame to the roller, to the shoe so that in use the pull exerted in the longitudinal direction by the strap on the movable frame 5 slides it in a direction which moves the lip 13 towards the roller 3 so that the strap is positively clamped between the lip 13 and the roller 3. In the construction shown the lip 13 is curved and the roller has a corresponding shape. In a modification however the lip 13 has a flat surface and the roller has a cylindrical central portion and frusto-conical ends and the strap is suitably shaped to engage both the frusto-conical ends and the cylindrical portion of the roller. The stationary frame instead of being connected directly to the shoe can be connected to a loop member which is itself connected to the shoe.
