A hollow plate valve is provided internally with a spiral cooling channel that communicates at its centre with an inlet 3 via a tube 5 and at its outer end with an outlet 4. A slot 7 at the end of the channel prevents a build-up of foreign bodies. The tube 7 may be flattened or of oval shape to minimize losses.
