Abstract
1,046,064. Valves. SIEGERL€NDER KUPFERWERKE G.m.b.H. March 17, 1964 [Sept. 3, 1963], No. 11327/64. Heading F2V. Uniform cooling of a closure member bounded by side walls 1, 2 and an outer ring 3, wherein the thermal stresses increase towards the centre thereof, e.g. in a hot-blast valve closure, and avoidance of deposits from the coolant are achieved by introducing the coolant, via a pipe 5, tangentially to the apex of a pear-shaped distribution chamber 4, partitioned at 10 at the centre of the member, from whence the coolant is radially distributed, through openings 7 in the distribution chamber wall 8, between guide ribs 11 to flow around the periphery within the ring 3 to the outlet 6. Alternate ribs 11 are joined to the distribution chamber wall and the openings 7 are immediately adjacent and parallel thereto. The spacings 12, 13 of the ribs 11 from ring 3 may vary. The closure can be made of copper or cast iron and may be a unitary centrifugal casting or a casting leaving only one of the side walls 1 or 2 to be assembled thereto or, alternatively, the closure may be welded from sheet metal.
