Magneto-e l e c t r i c machines.-A contact apparatus for magnetos comprises a rigid moulded part 2 of insulating-material, such as ebonite, in which a rigid conducting rod or wire 12 is loosely mounted so as to be pressed against the end 13 of the secondary winding of the armature by a spring 14 connected to the high-tension terminal 18. The insulating-block 2 also carries a conductor 7 located in a groove 8 and connecting the common terminal 6 of the primary and secondary windings to a slip-ring 9, in which bears a brush 10 connected to the low-tension terminal 11. The groove 8 is closed by a tongue of insulating- material. The wire 12 is insulated from the ebonite by a wrapping of cloth or by a tube of highly insulating material. The conductor 7 may consist of a sheet of foil. The insulating-block 2 is supported almost through its entire length by a side piece 4 of the armature frame.
