Abstract

1,045,260. Magnetic compositions. CSFCOMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. April 1, 1965 [April 22, 1964], No. 13945/65. Heading H1H. A ferromagnetic garnet has the composition: 3[(1 - x) Y 2 O 3 x Gd 2 O 3 ] 5 (1 - z) Fe 2 O 3 . y MnO 2 . where x lies between 0À3 and 0.6 z lies between 0.005 and 0.020 and y is a sole percentage of the initial oxides lying between 0À1 and 1-0. In preparation the initial oxides are ground, dried, presintered at a temperature above 1000‹ C., preferably 1200‹ C., for 2 hours, reground, mixed with a polyvinyl alcohol solution to form a granulate pressed into shape, sintered in O 2 at between 1368‹ C. and 1385‹ C. for two hours, and cooled at a rate of 50‹ C. to 150‹ C. per hour. The material is suitable for microwave devices and exhibits high resistivity.
