Abstract

1,044,870. Winches. A. BRUSSELLE. Aug. 9, 1963 [Aug. 14, 1962], No. 13298/66. Divided out of 1,044,955. Heading B8B. [Also in Divisions F2 and G1] Shoe or band brakes for the drums of a fishing winch, actuated by springs during free rotation of the drums on the main shaft are connected to a dynamometric indicator and are releasable by pneumatic or hydraulic pressure devices arranged coaxially of the springs. In an application to a shoe brake the shoes 4, Fig. 1, have a common pivot 5 coupled through a connecting rod 7 and linkage 10 to loadmeasuring indicator 15. A coil spring 41 for applying the brake is mounted in a sleeve 28 which is normally urged by the spring along a piston-rod 30 to apply the brake through a bent lever 20 and adjustable link 18, 22. Adjustment of the spring pressure or release of the brake may be obtained manually by a hand wheel 33 rotating a stop-nut 31 on the piston-rod 30. An hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder 40 attached to the casing 28 and containing a piston 29 operates to release the brake. A similar arrangement is described for use with a band brake, Fig. 4 (not shown).
