Abstract

[Also in Division H2] A self-oscillating inverter comprises four semi-conductor controlled rectifiers (S.C.R.'s) connected in series, pairs 1, 4 and 2, 3 of the S.C.R.'s being arranged to to be conductive alternately. As shown in Fig. 1, S.C.R.'s 1, 4 are triggered simultaneously so as to charge capacitor 7 via a load 8 from capacitors 5, 6 connected across a direct current supply Ug so as to provide the first half-cycle of a square wave. S.C.R.'s 2, 3 are then triggered, turning off S.C.R.'s 1, 4 and discharging capacitor 7 via the load 8 so as to provide the second half cycle of a square wave across the load 8. An inductor may be connected in series with capacitor 7 so as to provide a sinusoidal output.
