Abstract
Polyurethane elastomers are prepared by (1) reacting together in any order 15-50% (by weight of the total glycol) of a polypropylene ether glycol of average M.W. 900-4000; (2) 85-50% (by weight of the total glycol) of a polytetramethylene ether glycol of average M.W. 1800-3000; (3) toluene 2,4 diisocyanate or a mixture of 2,4 and 2,6 toluene diisocyanates; and (4) an arylene diamine having a pKb of at least 9.7 and having both amino radicals directly attached to aromatic nuclei, 1.5 to 2.5 moles of the diisocyanate being used for each mole of glycol, and 0.85-1.05 moles of diamine being used for each mole of diisocyanate in excess of the stoichiometric equivalent of the glycol. The preferred diamine is 4,41 methylene bis - (2 - chloroaniline). Other diamines e.g. 3,31-dichlorobenzidine, 4,41-diaminodiphenyl ether, 4,41-diaminodiphenylthioether and 4,41-isopropylidene bis-(2-chloroaniline) may also be used.
