Abstract

1,161,619. Polyurethane dispersions. AGFAGEVAERT A.G. 29 June, 1967 [2 July, 1966], No. 30080/67. Headings C3R and C3T. [Also in Division G2] A dispersion of a non-ionic polyurethane is formed by reaction of polymer having a molecular weight between 300 and 10,000 e.g. a polyalkylene glycol, a polythioether, a polyester or a polyesteramide or a polysiloxane having a molecular weight up to 20,000 which polymers or polysiloxane have at least two active H atoms one of which is in the form of OH and an excess of a di or polyisocyanate followed by emulsification of the polymer formed in water which may or may not contain a diamine as chain lengthening agent. Specified isocyanates are alkylene diisocyanates, hexahydro toluylene diisocyanates, phenylene and toluylene diisocyanates, dicyclohexylmethane disocyanate, 4,4- diphenyl methane diisocyanate, OCN-(CH 2) - N-(-CO.NH.(H 2 ) 6 .NCO) 2 . Specified diamines are toluylene diamine, ethylene diamine, hexamethylene diamine and cyclohexylene diamine. Polymers of acrylamido or methacrylic and #-hydroxy propyl esters may be added which react with isocyanate groups in the aqueous dispersion.
