Abstract

<PICT:1043287/C6-C7/1> The top 2 of a can has a tearable portion 3 which may be raised by means of a tab 4, an internal wall 5 spaced below the top 2 having a tongue 7 slotted at 8 and in register with the portion 3. Before the can is opened a drinking straw 10 is held in the slot 8; after opening, the straw may be lifted out and re-inserted between the end of the tongue 7 and the adjacent edge of the wall 5, the tongue then acting as a means for gripping the straw in any desired position. In place of a wall 5 the tongue 7 may be soldered or rivetted to the underside of the top 2. Again, the straw may be gripped in a slot in a bridge member spaced below the can top, Fig.5 (not shown). The can top may be opened by means of a ribbed tab united to a tear off portion of the top by means of a boss which fits over a complementary boss on the tear-off portion, Fig.6 (not shown).
