Abstract

1,097,768. Opening containers. CENTRAL STATES CAN CORPORATION. Dec. 28, 1964:. No. 52548/64. Heading B8D. A container, preferably of metal, is formed with an offset shoulder 15 so that a closure 11 may be opened by means of a tear strip lying between weakening lines 33, 34, and the remaining torn edge of the closure 11 will lie within the area of the offset shoulder 15, thereby not impeding the removal of the container contents. A tab (36) may be provided, Fig. 6 (not shown), attached to an end of the tear strip which extends radially inwards in a central disc-like portion 20 of the closure 11. The closure is also preferably of metal.
