Abstract

1,202,077. Opening containers. NATIONAL STEEL CORP. 6 Dec., 1967 [6 Dec., 1966], No. 55392/67. Heading B8D. A wedge-shaped tab opener 30 has a puncturing end 36 attached, e.g. by a rivet 34, to a section 32 of a can end within a scoreline 16. When lifting the tab end 38 to effect puncturing, its sides 39, 40 cause the metal of the can end to bulge at 44, 46, thus preventing binding when the tab opener 30 is pulled back to remove the section 32. The tab opener 30 can be used to pull out part or all of the can end. The Specification also describes prior art in which a tab opener lies entirely within the scoreline, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown).
