Abstract

104,308. Rushen, P. C., (Bosch Magneto Co.). Sept. 29, 1916. Magneto-electric machines; machines with two or more armatures; magnetos, driving.-An ignition-magneto and a lighting-dynamo, particularly for use on motor-cycles or automobiles, are positioned side by side with their armature axes parallel and connected together by gearing, the two machines being magnetically insulated from each other. The magneto armature 1 is connected at one end 3 to the engine and extends parallel to the arms of the U-shaped permanent magnet 2. The magnetic-circuits of the two machines are insulated from each other by the arm 5 of a U-shaped frame 5, 6, 7 of aluminium, the intermediate part 6 of which forms a bearing for the armature 1, the arm 7 forming a base for the whole structure. The yoke of the dynamo has a base 10 resting on the arm 5. The dynamoarmature 8 extends for a part only of the length of the permanent magnet 2, so as to allow of access to the interrupter 4 situated in the arch of the magnet 2. The dynamo is securely held in position by a brass strap 16. The gear 18 is connected to the magneto armature shaft through a slip clutch embodying two friction rings 20 loose on the shaft, and a spring plate 21 fast on the shaft. The dynamo is excited by shunt and series coils 12, 13, and an automatic switch 15 is provided for cutting it in and out.
