Abstract
6988. Podlesak, E. March 21. Inductor-alternators.-The component parts of the magnet system of an ignition magneto are so arranged that rapid flux variations are produced in the windings and the reluctance of the joints is minimized. The multiple permanent magnets 1, Fig. 1, fit between the yoke bars 2 and rest upon short bars placed between the bars 2, the whole being secured together by screws 16. The shaft 15 of the four-armed oscillating Inductor 3 is journaled in a spider 5, which is bolted at 17 to the three pole-pieces 6 formed on the yoke bars and separated by the coils 9, 10. In the form shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the magnets and yokes consist of alternately long and short bars 43, 43<a>, Fig. 8, and 13<1>, 13<11>, Fig. 9, and the outer laminated pole-pieces 6<1> are formed as separate packets secured by the arms of the spider 5 and by straps 36 seated in recesses 36<b>, Fig. 8, in the magnets. The coils in this case may be form-wound and slipped over the yokes. The spider carries the back journal and the supporting-pieces 35. The front journal is in a plate 37, which is bolted at 52 to the central poles 7<1> and carries studs 38, to which springs 40 are attached. The rotor is rocked, as by means of an engine-driven cam 18 acting on a rod 20 pivoted at 23 to an arm on the rotor shaft, and is restored to the position shown by the springs 40, which are attached to a double arm 41 on the shaft. The extremity of the rod 20 actuates, through a spring 25 and adjustable nut 27, the movable member 30 of the spark gap. In an alternative form of machine, the extremities of a laminated horseshoe magnet fit into recesses in the pole-pieces.
