Abstract

1,042,773. Valves. GIRLING Ltd. Sept. 19, 1963 [Sept. 27, 1962], No. 3064/65. Divided out of 1,042,772. Heading F2V. A valve for controlling the relative fluid pressures in the two chambers of a cylinder 44 comprises a first closure member 55 supported on diaphragms 56 and 57 and a second closure member 52, both members being urged by springs 59, 53 towards the right. In the position shown, the two parts of the cylinder 44 are interconnected through pipes 46, 47 and a port 61 and are also connected by port 45 to vacuum. When air from a control device enters the valve housing through a port 51, member 55 moves to the left to seat on member 52 and break the communication between the two parts of the cylinder. A further increase in the air pressure causes the member 55 to move member 52 away from its seat 54, so permitting atmospheric air to pass from ports 49 to the left-hand end of the cylinder 44 to move the piston therein to the right.
