Abstract

1,042,506. Valves. HOPKINSONS Ltd. May 10, 1963 [May 29, 1962], No. 20567/62. Heading F2V. In a gate valve having a screwed actuating spindle 22 axially movable by rotation of a hand wheel (not shown), the valve seats 14, to passages 11 and 12, are sealed by a pair of valve discs 16 and 17 urged apart by a coil spring 20 positioned within a rearwardly extending cylindrical portion 19 of the disc 17 which slidably engages within a similar portion 18 of the member 16 which is surrounded by the lower end 21 of the actuating spindle 22. Each of the discs 16 and 17 has a sealing O-ring contained within a groove 27 which is half dovetail in cross-section to retain the 0-ring during sliding movement and is provided with a vent 29 to prevent the entrapment of air. Alternatively, only one of the discs may be provided with sealing means, or one sealing disc only may be employed.
