Abstract

A corrosion-reducing composition which is stable in cold water comprises a mixture of a primary aliphatic amine (a) containing from 14 to 22 carbon atoms per molecule and a polyhydroxy phenolic compound (b). Optionally the composition also includes a non-ionic dispersing agent (c). Such a composition can be rapidly dispersed in cold water. Examples of a), b) and c) are:- a) octadecylamine tetradecylamine marine oil derived amines stearyl amine b) phenolic lignin sulphonates (e.g. Na, Ca, NH4 and Mg lignosulphonates) alkaline lignite compounds catechol or pyrogallol tannins resorcinol pyrogallol gallic acid catechol c) ethoxylated octadecylamine ethoxylated hydrogenated tallow amide ethoxylated tallow fatty acids hydrogenated tallow dimethyl quaternary ammonium chloride condensate of ethylene diamine with propylene oxide and ethylene oxide alkyl phenol polyglycol ether sodium N-cocoyl-b -aminopropionate condensate of propylene oxide with ethylene oxide ammonium or sodium polyacrylates having molecular weights of less than 200,000.
