Abstract
1,041,602. Converter chimneys; removing waste products in industrial processes. YAWATA IRON & STEEL CO. Ltd., and YOKOYAMA ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. April 22, 1963 [May 2, 1962], No. 15762/63. Headings F4B, F4J and F4X. A converter chimney is provided with an inlet hood 3 in close contact with a converter mouth 2, the end part of the inlet hood having a coating 4 of acidic refractory material. An air-tight seal between the hood and the converter mouth is effected by a mechanism 8 comprising a movable skirt 10; a water sealed apron 9, a skirt operating cylinder 12 and a nozzle 11 through which an inert gas is pumped. The hood 3 is provided with cooling water pipes 7, hood pressure detecting holes 6 and a fluxing material charging port 6. The coating 4 may comprise silica bricks or a mortar including silica.
