Abstract
A method of insulating an electrical conductor includes the steps of moving successive portions of a conductor through a dispersion of particles of an electrical insulating material, depositing particles of the insulating material on to the conductor by means of an electrostatic field whilst the conductor has a surface temperature which is below the melting point of the insulant, and then heating the particles to unite them. The dispersion may be a gaseous dispersion produced by a spray gun. The insulant may be polythene, polyvinyl chloride, cellulose acetate butyrate, epoxy resin, shellac, polyamide or polyurethane. The conductor may be of copper and may be tubular.
