Abstract

1,041,255. Electrically conducting tubing. ATLAS CORPORATION. Nov. 18, 1963, No. 45396/63. Heading F2P. Extruded polytetrafluorethylene (P.T.F.E) tubing has an outer annular portion 4 which is completely dialectric and an electrically conducting dispersed through its inner annular portion 2 to discharge static electricity from the interior of the tube. Preferably, the outer portion 4 is translucent and the inner portion 2 contains about 0À1 to 1À0 of carbon black. The tube may be extruded from a cylindrical " preform " (Fig. 3, not shown) in a ram-type extruder, the preform being built up on a mandrel to have an inner annulus of P.T.F.E. and carbon black and an outer annulus of P.T.F.E. alone. Particularly, the invention is intended to prevent arcing from the inside of the tube 6 to the braided wire covering 9.
