Abstract

A nuclear reactor prestressed concrete pressure vessel has a large aperture to permit the flow of coolant gas. To compensate for the weakening of the concrete by the aperture, the latter is provided with a steel liner. The thickness of the liner is given as the product of the radius of the aperture times the ratio of the elastic moduli of the concrete and liner.
