Abstract
1,039,601. Transformers. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Dec. 12, 1962 [Dec. 6, 1961], No. 43695/61. Heading H1T. A cooling system for electrical equipment using an inert liquid (the vapour of which has a relatively low resistance to breakdown until heated) includes a heater controlled by a temperature-sensitive switch to heat the liquid to a predetermined temperature before the equipment is switched on. The heater may be immersed in the cooling liquid for the equipment, which may be a transformer 1 (the Figure, not shown), or mounted in thermal contact with the outside of the vessel 2 carrying the liquid 3. Provided that the ON/OFF switch at 15 is closed, then the temperature-sensitive switch 16, which may include a thermistor, and is immersed in the liquid, will operate when the required temperature is reached, thus energizing the coil 12A of a changeover switch 12 and transferring the voltage supply connected to wipers 14 from the heaters to the equipment. A second temperature sensitive switch may be incorporated to operate at a higher temperature and to switch on a further cooling system, such as a fan, to blow air along the ducts 9.
