Abstract

To obviate lateral wandering in an endless belt conveyer a driven and possibly an idler roller and/or the contacting surface of the belt is or are provided with ribs spaced apart across the width of the roller and/or belt. As shown in Figs. 2, 4, 6, a wooden roller 29 mounted on a steel shaft 8 is encircled by an externally ribbed sheet 30 formed from rubber or rubber-like plastics attached thereto by adhesive, screws, tacks, nails or staples. The ribbed sheeting 30 may be provided with ribs on both its inner and outer surfaces. Fig. 2 shows the roller in conjunction with an endless belt 33 having plain inner and outer surfaces, while Fig. 4 shows an endless belt with a plain outer surface 40 and ribs 41 on its inner surface engaging the ribs 34 of the sheeting 30 on the roller 29. The ribs may have rounded crests.
