Abstract
A process for producing double-oriented magnetic steel sheets from a single-oriented magnetic steel sheet having a (110) [001] grain texture, comprising cold-rolling the said single-oriented steel sheet at a reduction of 20-50%, then annealing the sheet at a temperature of 1000 DEG -1200 DEG C. for sufficient time to substantially complete recrystalization of the material, followed by skin pass-rolling of the steel sheet to produce a reduction of 0.5 - 2.5% and finish annealing at a temperature of 1150 - 1250 DEG C. for sufficient time to complete secondary recrystalization of the material. The necessary time for annealing in each case is 20 - 40 hours. In the examples given the steel sheet is formed of silicon steel. Prior to the initial cold-rolling the sheet is pickled in 30% hydrochloric acid at 80 DEG C. for 10 minutes to remove any coating from the surface of the metal. Annealing may be carried out in a reductive or inert atmosphere of dew point less than -40 DEG C. and an oxygen content of less than 100 p.p.m. or in a vacuum of pressure less than 10-3 mm Hg.
