Abstract

1,038,550. Portable containers; container closures. H. A. L. VENNER (National Can Corporation). July 30, 1964, No. 30241/64. Headings B8D and B8T. A cylindrical container body 11 has a seamedon upper end wall 14 which can be removed by a can-opener, and a collar 31 having a vertical wall 32 whose top end 33 is secured in the seam and an annular sloping part 34 which terminates in a neck 37 which is closed by a replaceable snap-fitting flexible plastics cap 41. The top 14 comprises an annular bead 19 and a bulge 23 which during stacking nests in a recess 26 in the bottom 14a of a superimposed container 11a. The cap has projections 61 on the under surface of a part 42 resting on a curl 36 on neck 37, and projections 44 on a skirt 43 engaging under the curl 36. An inward annular projection 53 overhangs a central depression 59 and facilitates the removal of the cap. The caps 41 are stackable, with a step 57 resting on the projection 53 of the cap below. The inside of the container, which may or may not include the headspace above the cap 41 and the collar 31, may be vacuumized, nibs 61 acting as air vents. The headspace may contain directions, additives etc. In a modification, the part 42 extends further inwardly of the neck, the depression in the cap thus being of a smaller diameter.
