1,038,451. Epicyclic gearing. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 14, 1962 [Nov. 3, 1961], No. 39441/61. Heading F2Q. In a nutating epicyclic friction gear having coaxial driving and driven shafts 21, 22, a planet disc 30 contacts a frusto-conical or, as shown, planar surface of a fixed annular member 31 and is fast on an axle 26 one end of which is a sliding fit in an angled and eccentric bore 25 of the driving shaft and the other end of which is secured to the centre of a flexible diaphragm 28 carried by the driven shaft. To maintain frictional contact between fixed member and the planet disc these members may be respectively permanently magnetized and of mild steel.
