1,059,762. Resilient couplings. JOSEPH (LUCAS) INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 16, 1965 [Feb. 13, 1964], No. 6031/64. Heading F2U. A resilient shaft coupling for a rotary valve provides relative axial movement between coaxial driving and driven shafts 10, 11 on overload, and comprises balls 20 mounted in V - grooved transverse recesses 13, 12, 16, 18 in the ends of the shafts, or in ports secured to them, and in an intermediate member 14 therebetween, the assembly being normally spring-biased together so that on overload the balls 20 ride up the recesses to relatively axially move the shafts. The intermediate member 14 may be a sheet metal pressing or may be a machined part with the recesses formed as conical depressions.
