Abstract
1,037,991. Drills. A. E. R. ARNOT. June 25, 1962 [June 26, 1961; Feb. 13, 1962], Nos. 1840/62 and 5493/62. Heading B3C. A masonry or like drill comprises a shank having an end cutting bit of larger diameter than the shank, and a group of discs of progressively increasing diameter, and having at least one cutting tip on the periphery of each disc, the discs being clamped non-rotatably on the shank. Shank 1, Figs. 1, 2, of Provisional Specification 1840/62 (not shown) is hexagonal and terminates in a cutting bit 3, having tungsten carbide, diamond, or similar cutting tips 4, and steel discs 5-8 of progressively increasing diameter, each have a tungsten carbide, diamond, or similar cutting tip 13, and are secured on the shank by a nut 12, and spacers 9-11. Each disc may have two or more tips, and cutting bit 3 may be attached to shank 1 instead of being integral therewith. In a modification, shank 1, Figs. 1, 3, 4 of Provisional Specification 1,037,991 (not shown), has a left-hand thread, and has at least one vee-groove 8a for non- rotatably mounting discs 5 having tips 6 thereon, the tips 6 on each disc being angularly spaced from the tips on adjacent discs. The smallest diameter disc 5a has the same number of tips 6 as there are flutes in cutter bit 4, and the tips on the discs axially project from the latter.
