Abstract

1,037,801. Door closers. HEINZ SCHUERMANN & CO. Jan. 29, 1963, No. 3598/63. Heading E2M. In an hydraulically clamped telescopic door closer having a return spring 5, there is provided a housing enclosing a main piston 4a mounted on a piston rod 4, a control piston 6 displaceable in the housing, a pressure relieving slide valve 9 adapted to follow the control piston during its displacement, a deformable connecting strap 3 secured to the main piston 4a at one end, a seal 21 for the control piston 6, and a pressure relief channel 19b co-operating with the seal 21 for relieving excess pressure in the housing. The slide valve 9 (see Fig. 3, not shown) is formed with portions of varying cross-section so as to alter the flow of dampening fluid through the closer to control the dampening action. The connecting strap 3 is pivotally mounted at its other end to the door frame and may be composed of interlocking elements having various cross-sections composed of metal or plastics materials.
