1,037,237. Friction hinges. CROMPTON NETTLEFOLD STENMAN Ltd. March 12, 1965 [March 31, 1964], No. 13241/64. Addition to 960,888. Heading E2F. An adjustable friction hinge comprises a cylinder 4 having a mounting bracket 2 and a bridge piece 5 having a second bracket (not shown) and rotatable within the cylinder 4. Pairs of brake shoes 11, 12 and 13, 14, situated on each side of the bridge piece are separated by wedges 9 and 10 the distance between which is altered by a screw 8 to adjust the pressure of the shoes on the inner surface of the cylinder 4. Access to the screw 8 is provided by a hole 15 in the cylinder. The brake shoes may be of nylon.
