Abstract

To improve the colour of fibres spun from acetone-soluble copolymers of acrylonitrile and vinylidene chloride 0.1 to 5 weight per cent of the polymer of a reducing agent selected from formaldehyde, benzaldehyde, glyoxal, formic acid, oxalic acid, tartaric acid, thioglycollic acid, benzene sulphinic acid, thiourea dioxide, monomethylol formamide, sodium hydrosulphite and metal formaldehyde sulphoxylates, is added to the spinning solution. In Examples (1) tartaric acid, (2) thiourea dioxide, (3) thioglycollic acid and (4) zinc formaldehyde sulphoxylate are added to spinning solutions comprising aqueous acetone solutions of redox polymerized acrylonitrile/vinylidene chloride copolymers, titanium dioxide and organotin compound.
