Abstract
<PICT:1037094/C4-C5/1> A catalytic steam reforming plant of the kind having rows of catalyst-filled tubes 24 and top burners 23, e.g. as described in Specification 1,036,447, has a false floor 25 uniformly perforated at 30, and a flue gas outlet 17 communicating with the space between the false floor 25 and the true floor 12. The floor 25 comprises slabs 28, see Fig. 1 (not shown), bridging spaced piers 26 in adjacent rows of piers, the slabs being spaced to provide slits 30. Adjacent piers in the same row are bridged by pieces 31 which are recessed, loosely to receive the tubes 24 which are supported at their upper ends. The tubes 24 are preferably of the concentric type and closed at their lower ends, but they may traverse the plant from the roof 16 to the floor 12. A burner 21 may be provided in the flue 17.
