Abstract

1,036,950. Hose end-fittings. SUPERFLEXIT Ltd. July 15, 1965 [Dec. 29, 1964], No. 52660/64. Heading F2G. An end-fitting for a flexible thin wall conduit or hose 1, preferably of polytetrafluoroethylene, comprises a nipple 3 and a ferrule 4 having cylindrical parts 5 and 6 for entering and surrounding the conduit respectively and frusto-conical parts 8 and 9 for gripping the belled end of the conduit when an associated ring nut 11 of the fitting is tightened. The cylindrical part of the nipple is provided with annular saw-tooth projections 7 which grip the inner surface of the conduit. The ring nut has a shoulder 9 which engages a radial ferrule flange 12. In the embodiment illustrated at the left-hand side of Fig. 1, said nut engages an external thread on the nipple, and, in the embodiment at the righthand side, the nut is intended to engage another component such as an electrical connector when the conduit is arranged to carry bunched electrical conductors 2. A tool used in assembling the fitting, Fig. 2 (not shown), comprises a cylindrical end part 16 for supporting the nipple and conduit, a knurled centre part 13 to facilitate handling, a tapered end part 14 for belling the hose end, and a further tapered part intermediate the knurled and cylindrical parts for increasing the said belling.
