Abstract

847,721. Pipe joints. SUPERFLEXIT Ltd. Aug. 18, 1958 [May 21, 1958], No. 16370/58. Class 99(1). An end fitting for a helically convoluted flexible hose 13, Fig. 3, comprises a nipple 1 and a sleeve 9 in screw-threaded engagement with the convolutions of the hose and formed with frustro-conical surfaces 5, 14, between which the hose end is clamped, and a nut 15, engaging the sleeve or nipple 15, connecting the end fitting to a junction box 18 or to a similar end fitting. The end fitting may be of aluminium, nylon or a synthetic resin and the nipple 1 can be lined with the hose material e.g. polytetrafluoroethylene, rubber or a polyamide. The screw threads on the nipple 1 and sleeve 9 may be of a slightly greater pitch than those on the hose, and the outer surfaces of the nipple 1, sleeve 9 and the nut 15 can be knurled. The frustroconical surface 5 may be provided with a groove 8 of rounded or rectangular form which can be fitted with a neoprene 'O' ring. Another embodiment, Fig. 4, has a nipple 1 with a screwthreaded extension 22 so that the sleeve 9 and the nipple 1 can be held engaged by the locking nut 15, a flange 6 on the nipple extension being engaged by the flange 16a of a second nut 15a. Two or more end fittings can be held in a spacing plate 23, Fig. 4, by a nut 15 whilst a spigot 24 of the nipple 1 enters a junction box wherein it may be sealed by an 'O' ring 25. Alternativley the spacer plate may be secured by studs, screws or bolts.
