Abstract

The end of one of the pipes or fittings is reduced in external diameter (17) with a shoulder (18) and a screw thread (23). A split sleeve is screwed on to the thread (23) and the mating pipe (50) is pushed inside a sleeve and over the diameter (17). The split sleeve is tightened onto the pipe (50) by a screw in a pair of lugs. The inner surface of the split sleeve is provided with a number of circumferential ribs (26) to ensure a pressure tight joint between sleeve and tube. The inner surfaces of the joint can be coated by dipping in a powder of corrsion resistant material such as polyamide.
