955,498. Hose couplings. SUPERFLEXIT Ltd. Oct. 22, 1962 [Feb. 19, 1962], No. 6392/62. Heading F2G. An end fitting for a conduit or hose 2 with woven or plaited armouring 8 includes a nipple 1 formed with an annular groove 5 containing an 0-ring 6 and inserted into the hose, a sleeve 7 enclosing that part of the hose entered by the nipple, a ferrule 10 which is swaged radially inward to force its extremity 11 into locking engagement with a second annular groove 9 on the nipple and to cause the remainder of the ferrule to grip the armouring, sleeve 7 and hose. The sleeve 7 is forced over the hose and abuts a shoulder 4 on the nipple. The outer end of the nipple carries a retaining nut held on by a metal ring 12. The end may be tapered externally to engage an internally tapered seating and have an annular groove 18 with an 0-ring 19 as in Fig. 3. Alternatively it may be tapered internally to receive an external taper as in Fig. 1 (not shown). The end of the ferrule is bellmouthed to receive sealing composition 21.
