Abstract

1,036,712. Smoothing direct current. RANK ORGANISATION. Nov. 23, 1962 [Aug. 25, 1961], No. 30753/61. Heading H2F. A circuit for smoothing rectified A.C. comprises resistors 5, 6, in a supply line to a load 4, the resistor 5 being shunted by one or more transistors 7 and 8 in cascade and acting as emitter followers the transistor 8 being controlled by an amplifying transistor 9 which is responsive to ripple signal derived across a circuit comprising resistors 10, 12, and capacitor 11. The circuit operates in such a way that an increase in the ripple signal operates to drive the transistor 7 towards cut-off, thereby tending to maintain a constant voltage across the load. In a further embodiment two rectifiers fed from a common source are connected in parallel to supply a load, one of the rectifiers being provided with a smoothing circuit as above (Fig. 2, not shown).
