Abstract

Heading B4B In a scraper as set forth in the main Patent, the slots la in which the blades 11 are mounted are formed by a plurality of blade-locating elements 1 slidably mounted side by side on, and detachable from, a backing member 5 against which the rear edges of the blades are supported when inserted in the slots. Each element 1 is formed with a transversely-extending web 2 which divides the element into upper and lower sections, the lower section being subdivided by a plurality of ribs 3 and the upper section constituting a passage 4 for the member 5. The outermost elements 1 are closed at their outer ends by walls 6. The elements 1 may be made of resilient plastics material and the member 5 made of rubber or resilient plastic material. The member 5 is formed with pairs of recesses 8 which extend across the junctions between adjacent elements 1. The opposed edges of adjacent elements 1, and ribs 3, which define the sides of the slots 1a, are formed with pairs of recesses 7. To retain the elements 1 assembled together on the member 5, the elements are provided with a peripheral step 9 around which an elastic band 10 is located. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the backing member is rigid e.g. a spring steel strip. In addition, the transverse web of each bladelocating element is relieved in the region of the slot and a supplementary passage is provided between the web and a second transverse web carrying the ribs, to afford clearance for the thickened inner end of a blade engaging a recess of the backing member. The backing member may be provided with recesses on only one face thereof so that when it is desired to employ blades having a reduced vertical thickness, the backing member is inverted. The backing member may be moulded integrally with, or secured to, one of the blade-receiving elements.
