Abstract
103,587. Vangen, A. May 8, 1916. Targets.-Relates to targets of the kind which are subdivided into annular sections each of which, when struck, backs as a whole and also tilts, i.e. makes a more pronounced backward movement at the part of the ring hit. A separate value-indicator is provided for every section, and indicators for lateral positions are operated by corresponding parts of all the rings. As shown in Fig. 1, each annular section 1, 2, 3, or 4 is carried by a loose collar 10, 11, 12, or 13 on the central sleeve 7, through which runs the stem 8 of the bull's-eye 5, and from each collar extends a rod, two 14, 16 of which are shown, to knock , a separate pivoted counterweighted indicator 20. The section struck and all those behind it are forced back momentarily against a common esetting-spring 23, which normally presses them against the end of the sleeve 7. Behind each quadrant is a sliding rod 40 bearing a cross-head 35. whence a pin 60, 61, or 62 extends to each annulus. The rod nearest the point struck is thrust back against its spring 65 and, being furnished with a lug 45, throws out an indicator 50. As shown in Fig. 4, the annuli have no collars, but are resisted and reset by separate springs 76, and each annulus operates its own value-indicator through one of a number of rods 70, which carry collars 77 acting on the cross-heads 35 of the position-indicating mechanism. As shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the annuli are in one plane and are attached to the rods 70 by ball joints, so that they are reset by the value-indicators and not by springs. As shown in Figs. 7 and 8, the lateral indicators 88 are adapted to rotate so as to be visible longer than indicators which return to rest after swinging out. The slide 80 represents the sliding rod 40, with cross-head, of the other figures, and a finger 84 thereon strikes a lug on the indicator. To prevent the finger from checking the rotation of the indicator, it lies loose on a stud 85 and is set only by a light spring 86.
