No. 91,935. Patented June 29, 1869.

M. C. HEPTINSTALL, OF. ENF-IELD, NORTH CAROLINA.
Letters Patent No. 91,935, dated June 29, 1869.
,mrnovnn ALARM-GUN.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part: of the same.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that l, M. O. HEP'rms'TALL, of En field, in the county of Halifax, and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Alarm-Guns; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being hadt'o the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple and reliable alarm-gun. 1
'It consists of a metallic cylinder, haviug'a bore in each end, for holding the charge to be fired, the said bores running nearlyto the centre of the cylinder, where each is provided with anipple 'and fuse-hole, over which are spring-hammers, which are allowed to escape from the set position to strike the nipples, by the turning of vertical pins, having arms, to which cords may be drawn, in any position to be disturbed, and
cause the escape of the hammers, by any person or thing approaching.
Figure 1 represents an elevation, partly in section, of my improved gun.
Figure 2 represents a plan view of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding part-s.
' A represents a metallic cylinder, bored from each end, as shown at B. l
0 represents nipples, for supporting caps, and communicating with each bore. I
D represents the spring-hammers, secured to the cylinder at their outer ends.
These are set by elevating their inner ends, and resting them on pins E, projecting, one from a spindle, F, and the other from a tube, G, encircling the spindle, and both supported in a vertical hole in the cylinder A, and also capable of rotation.
The said tube is slotted on the side on which the pin is connected to the spindle F. It is provided with an arm, H, for connecting a discharging-cord, and the spindle F is provided with a similar arm, I.
If the cord of either of these arms be drawn, it will first trip one spring-hammer, and then the other, dis
charging the guns separately, thereby making a more eifective alarm than if discharged simultaneously.
Only one bore, spring-hammer, 850., may be employed, if preferred.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- a The arrangement of the tube G, spindle F, arms H I, and tripping pins E, all substantially as specified.
M. O. HEPTINSTALL.
