[Also in Division B5] The platen 9 (Fig. 1, not shown), of an hydraulic press, e.g. for assembling force fits, can be brought to rest in any desired position by means of a setting member 46 (Fig. 2, not shown) connected by a link 49 to the movable shuttle 36 of a valve 13 in the supply line leading to the operating cylinder 7 of the press. As shown, the cylinder 7 is connected to the platen 9 and contains a stationary piston 10. The setting member 46 is adjustable by means of a capstan 51 through a pinion 53 meshing with a rack 52 formed on the member 46. When the setting member 46 and shuttle 36 are moved, hydraulic fluid acts on the piston 10 and cylinder 7 to restore the outer part of the valve 13 to its original position relative to the shuttle 36. The platen 9 can thus be inched forward to a desired position by inching forward the setting member 46.
