Abstract
103,564. Smellie, W. M. March 31, 1916. Starting. - The invention relates to starting- devices of the kind in which a hand or foot pump is used for forcing air through a fuel-container in such a manner as to inject a mixture of fuel and air into the induction pipe. The airpump 1, Fig. 2, is located within the fuel-container, with the discharge valve 3 below the level of the fuel. When the pump is worked, carburetted air is forced into the open end 6 of the U-shaped pipe 5 and through the aperture 10 in the plug 7, with which the other end of the pipe 5 communicates. At the same time, liquid fuel passes into the pipe 5 through the hole 11, so that carburetted air and liquid fuel pass to the spraying-nozzle through the pipe 8. The spraying-nozzle comprises an internally screwed cap 14 having a small hole 15 and a screwed plug 16 having two or more diagonal or spiral passages 17.
