Abstract

1,035,411. Burners. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Feb. 22, 1965 [Feb. 24, 1964], No. 7582/65. Heading F4T. An injector for injecting gaseous or liquid fuel into a blast pipe 9, figures (not shown), of a blast furnace comprises a fuel pipe 1 provided with a nozzle 4, and an outer jacket pipe 5 surrounding the fuel pipe and connected thereto in a gas-tight manner adjacent the nozzle. The other end of the jacket 5 is slidably mounted on a bush 6 secured to the fuel pipe and a number of openings 27 in the jacket 5 connect the inside of the jacket to the atmosphere. A second jacket 2 is disposed within the outer jacket 5 and surrounds the inner half of the fuel pipe 1. One end of the inner jacket 2 is connected to the nozzle and the other end is slidably mounted in the outer jacket. The outer jacket 5 is disposed within a tube 11 welded to the periphery of a hole 10 in the blast pipe 9 and is secured by pins 17 on an element 12 on the tube 11 passing through openings 23 in an element 21 adjustably secured by screws 22 to the outer jacket 5, keys 26 being placed in radial openings in the pins 17. The two elements 12, 21 have frusto-conical contacting faces. The element 12 has a hinged door 15.
